George smoked well past his "spiritual" awakening. He continued to do pot and heroin too. You know, there's a big gap in the difference between what we WANT HIM TO BE and what George REALLY IS.

He professed to love life, and then, smoked himself to death. He preached a "spiritual" life and warned of the dangers of "materialism" while the hypocrite lived in a 120 room exotic mansion. He owned an $800 million classic car collection. A huge swath of ocean-side property in Hawaii. He was a mess!

He stopped using drugs because of his religion at this point I think. They never smoked pot in the studio because of George Martin.

They used to go into the basement and puff a jay before recording at Abbey Road. They talk about it in the anthology!

Never said that.
Unless you're incredibly unhealthy to start with, before you started smoking, you wont get ephysema below 30.
I guess I worded my reply wrong, I meant that most, if not all, heavy smokers, that have been smoking for a long while. (maybe 20+ years) have a degree of emphysema. At least studies have shown.

So, no, he probably didn't have empshysema here, but he almost certainly did when he died, like most heavy smokers.
