Raza Naqvi, Urdu VOA News, Washington-
The Indian Air Force is in the market for a revamp of its mid-level air fleet. Among the bidders for the $10 billion potential deal are American arms manufactures Lockheed Martin and Boeing. Ashton Carter, Undersecretary of State for Defense Acquisitions, said at a recent forum at the Carnegie Endowment that the deal could help further improve US-India relations, but said that it would not affect America's relationship with India's neighbors Pakistan and China. Ashley Tellis of Carnegie, who recently completed a study on the deal, said it would be of great benefit to America's defense and diplomatic relations with India as well as for US economy. The revamp of the air fleet could potentially change the conventional arms ratios of India and Pakistan but Shuja Nawaz of the Atlantic Council insists that Pakistan does not have the resources for an arms race, and the nuclear deterrent should be enough to keep Pakistan safe.
