Shots of friends and shipmates of the USS Suribachi AE 21, an U.S. Navy ammunition ship. She cruised the South China Sea off the cost of Vietnam re-arming Navy ships. These gentlemen and other fine men served aboard the Suribachi in 1972 and 1973. For her service, the Suribachi was awarded a Meritorious Unit Citation. The Suribachi has now been stricken from the roll and scrapped. Her memory lives on amongst her officers and crews who served aboard her.

  • In July of 1972 we were alongside 2 or 3 times as I recall. We spent the rest of the tour occassionaly transferring ammo with the Mount Hood. The Mount Hood was a fine ship and performed her job with honor, dedication, and guts.
