I attempted to discover how fast I could load 15 commonly used programs on the Intel Nehalem desktop platform (Core i7 / X58) with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 build 7127 using the following setup:

EVGA X58 SLI Classified Limited Edition
Core i7 Extreme 965 @ 3.74GHz
2x EVGA GeForce GTX 295 Plus [Quad-SLI] @ 660/1440/2110
6GB (3 x 2GB) Mushkin XP Series DDR3 1600MHz 7-8-7-20
** 2x Samsung Spinpoint F1 HE753LJ 750GB RAID Edition **

Windows Experience Index (WEI) score is 5.9, with the RAID drives giving the lowest subscore (surprisingly):

WEI is 5.9 with my RAID drives giving the lowest subscore (surprisingly):

  • How could you upgrade ur pc to increase Disk data transfer rate score??

  • @salaipapa The addition of two Solid State Disks with SandForce controllers, coupled together in RAID0, would make for a fine performance improvement ;)

  • Intel Core™ 2 Quad Q9400 2,66GHz,

    Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 4096MB

    PowerColor Radeon HD 5770 1GB GDDR5

    Silver Power SP-SS500, 500W

    Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR, P45,

Do you think this is a good system? :p

  • @spenatjonas @spenatjonas There really is no way for me to objectively you give you an account of what is "good" versus what is "satisfactory" and what is "bad." It all depends on your usage model and which applications you are going to use with your system. If you gave me a context explaining which programs and applications you use most, then I might be able to give you a reasonably validated opinion.

  • All programs were opened before the video was taken, thus were all programs still in memory and probly had little or no disk-access whatsoever, Starting 15 programs that you keep in memory like that works extremly fast, does not require a Core i7 to perform speeds like that. sry to say, but that was sort of...... lame. Get a solid state raid config and do a real bench test then. Or do some rendering-benchmark if you wanted to show off with cpu performance..
