@alzahad Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, both did this song. Then, Walden Robert Perciville Cassotto; AKA Bobby Darin, came along and did it too.Frank Sinatra then tried his hand at it. Generally speaking, once Sinatra sings a song, he owns it - no one can match the genious of Sinatra's phrasing ... but not this time, no one ever did this song better than Bobby Darin!!!

@alzahad It always blows me away that a German communist's creepy organ-grinder song about murder and rape was translated and turned into a big, pop-chart hit in America. I'm from a younger, post-cold-war generation and can't quite wrap my head around it. Did people know what he was singing about, and did they know about the musical it's from? I guess the gangster image back then was comparable to the popularity of gangster rap today. And I agree, Darin's version is definitely the absolute best.
