@9122345bjs Yeah, you can buy the knife at micheal's. It's pretty dull though- you could take the time to get it sharp (lots of time), or just go with someone who produces better knives.

@9122345bjs i did find the knives and a small set of palm chisles at michels it was 20$ for the knife it is from china havnt used it yet the chisleswere 29$ for 4

You can do this with pine, make sure it is clear pine with no knots. Pine will split out more so you will have to watch that. Enjoy carving!!

I know you can buy basswood at Michaels, not sure about the knife. Hobby Lobby would probably have them and I know you can buy them on ebay.

I have carved with many different knives. The ones that work the best are fixed blade types or blades you can lock. A swiss army knife, I do have one, you could use, but not the best. Above all, the blade needs to hold a razor sharp edge , some knives can not do this. Do not use stainless steel blades, they do not hold a edge very well.

The wood is basswood, tight grain and soft to carve. You can by on Ebay from time to time. Also, a craft store like Hobby Lobby has some small pieces.

Using a razor sharp knife for a 10 year old, he or she needs to have a cut free glove and supervised by an adult.
