UN Secretary - General Ban Ki-moon's message for ISRAMUN 2011 - The College of Management Academic Studies.

ISRAMUN was established by volunteer students from different faculties of the College of Management academic studies, who realized the importance of having an MUN in Israel.

Revolution: Anarchy or Evolution?

It is not surreal to say that we are living in an age of revolution. We live in an age in which the media and the flow of information are an inseparable part of our life, and influence them dramatically. "Google", "FaceBook" and the latest "Wiki-Leaks" give a different meaning to how we think, the way we make our choices, the access we have to knowledge and what we see as "the truth". They subvert traditional mechanisms for control of information.

The revolutions in the Arab world against autocratic regimes show us that political revolutions are not a matter of the past and are still relevant, especially in the 21st century. Indeed, the organization of revolt by means of new communications technologies spreads the potential for popular uprising against authority.

These revolutions take us into uncharted territory raising more questions than answers for the international community and UN institutions: Are we facing a further stage of evolution for human society, with the enhancement of democratic government, human rights, free flow of information and peace? Or are we witness to the commencement of an age of anarchy, with perpetual turmoil and civil war, irresponsible exposure of sensitive facts and the empowerment of religious or sectoral dissidents?

ISRAMUN 2011 will deal with some of these questions in 7 different committees, inviting answers from the student generation. As part of the understanding of the important role the media has in both informing and forming public opinion and political decision making, we will hold a Press Corps committee that will cover the committee proceedings live.
