Warum sie lacht? Bei diesem Stück passiert es sehr leicht, dass der Chor zu tief singt (liegt an der komosition) dadurch, dass die Dirigentin scheinbar lacht, will sie erreichen, dass die Tonhöhe gehalten wird, also nicht tiefer wird. So einfach ist das.

@Kraps04 That is exactly what I wanted to add. The conductor's facial expression which looks like a smile reminds the singers to keep a brighter tone of voice and keep the intonation. Every choir singer knows this, but the audience rarely can see it...

I believe the ending of Crucifixus is one of the best Bach ever wrote... Love it.
