EDIT: For those of you who think I'm abusing this animal, I'm not. He was trapped inside the screen and when I tried to guide him towards the door he climbed towards the top of the screen. I thought the whole situation was hilarious so i got the camera. After filming I managed to get him out and into a tree and now he visits my front porch nightly.

And also, any mammal can contract rabies its just unlikely for opossums.

Possums do not get rabies or distemper due to their low body temperature. They are probably the most beneficial of the native wildlife cleaning up dead things and rotten fruit. They are also immune to rattlesnake and viper venom, controlling those populations. Possums eat rats, roaches, snails, slugs as well as any kind of bug or garbage that they find. They are gentle when not threatened and they care for their young like few other mammals on the planet.
