Long time NY Yankees public address announcer Bob Sheppard introduces Derek Jeter. He's been the public address announcer for the Yankees since 1951! The first Yankee lineup Sheppard announced contained 5 future Hall of Famers: Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Johnny Mize, Yogi Berra, and Phil Rizzuto. The Yankees played the Boston Red Sox that day, so Sheppard also introduced Ted Williams and Lou Boudreau, for a total of seven future Hall of Famers. Sheppard is known for his distinctive announcing style, which has become a part of Yankee Stadium's lore. He begins by saying, "Good afternoon (or Good evening)... ladies and gentlemen... and welcome... to Yankee Stadium."

I so miss Bob Sheppard, as going to a Yankees game will never be the same without him. He was pretty much the last link to the new gone Yankee Stadium, but at least he thankfully didn't completely go away, thanks to Derek Jeter having the recording of Bob Sheppard announcing his name at every home game. Long live Bob Sheppard, and you may be gone, but will never be forgotten by anyone!

The greatest pa announcer of all time has passed. Nobody did a better job than Bob. Went to a couple of yankee games in the late nineties and I will never forget that voice. As a die hard Dodger fan and yankee hater I can't hate Bob Shepard. He announced yankee games like no other and the yanks were blessed to have him. May he rest in peace.

There will never be a PA quite the same as Sheppard in MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL or any other sport forever. The sporting world lost a true legend
