Jonathan Coulton brings his troubadour folk stylings to Seattle, 2/24/07. Check out the other videos in this series.

Note: My camera only records 3-minute clips at a time, so that will explain any cut-out parts of the song. Sorry...

A romantic ballad for Pluto and Charon. Demoted in status but not in spirit!

  • This is one you have to wave a lighter with.

  • @daberko120ch

    @Astrapsody

    Girls, girls, you're both pretty!

    I read an XKCD comic a while ago about how youtube comments are the scum of all the internet. I now see why. Grow up!

  • @daberko120ch Mass has nothing to do with determining whether a body is a planet or not. And as I've said before, just because it has "planet" in it's name does not mean it is a planet. Planet and dwarf planet are two totally different terms. Also, what's wrong with using Wikipedia for basic information? I just recently took an introductory astronomy class in college, and remember having this exact discussion. I simply forgot the 3 criteria by which a planet is classified. Your just wrong here.

  • @Astrapsody that's what I ment, I'm sorry I don't use wikipedia for my come backs... It doesn't dominate it's orbit because charon is about 2 times as large as pluto, yet it is a moon. Pluto IS a planet, a DWARF PLANET <---- PLANET, RIGHT THERE, DO YOU NEED ME TO UNDERLINE IT? It is a planet, It just does not dominate it's orbit like Jupiter, but has a sufficient mass. Pluto's a planet, it says it right after dwarf...

  • @daberko120ch Gravity doesn't dominate it's surroundings? What does that even mean? What "surroundings"? "A planet is a body that orbits the Sun, is massive enough for its own gravity to make it round, and has 'cleared its neighborhood' of smaller objects around its orbit." That's the definition of a planet. Pluto has not cleared its orbit, and therefore, is not a planet. If we called Pluto a planet, there wouldn't be any reason not to call the hundreds of other bodies around it planets.

  • @Astrapsody dwarf planets are planets that's gravity does not dominate it's surroundings, still a planet.

  • @daberko120ch You have no idea what you're talking about. A dwarf planet is not a planet. It's entirely different, and it's unfortunate that it even has "planet" in its name since people like you get this misconception. And a "scientist never said such a thing". Really now? The decision, whether you agree with it or not, was made by an entire board of scientists.

  • pluto is a planet it just isn't a major one, it's a sub-planet, a Dwarf planet. DWARF PLANETS ARE STILL PLANETS! MAN!!! i wish grade school teachers would get their shit together and teach the kids that it's still a planet, too many people are going into thinking that its not a planet anymore when scientist never said such a thing...

  • I don't care what Pluto is - planet, dwarf planet, whatever - it's still awesome. :) As is this song.

  • I'd probably be lynched for this but I'm actually in agreement with the demoting of Pluto. It was just a matter of semantics after all.

    Ahem, oh yeah nice song.
