@brats817 ... also many greenhouses must pay a royalty to sell and grow it....if they buy a certain amount they may sell out and are unable to a sexually reproduce it without paying a penalty...this is why some places may not carry it

@SnowWhiteDove7 You're welcome. Hope this helps.

@brats817 thanks for the info i did cut mine down a little over a week ago.its about 2 inches high mostly just brown stems and had slight new growth little yellow leafs not many.this spring everything was 3 weeks late for the blooming season all the trees too were way behind.so hope i see the bleeding heart again next spring.it will probably come up in the ground like the peonies do that i have.thanks-

@SnowWhiteDove7 Yes eventually the leaves will turn yellow. Mine did so I cut mine back about an inch above the ground. Your plant should come back early spring next year, mine came back late because of our weird weather. We usually get hot weather in the warmer seasons and crazy storm weather in the colder seasons so it confused my plant, but it did come back, though it was small and only got few flowers. I may have to put something in the soil. But overall bleeding hearts are quite hardy.

@brats817 oh ok thanks.i will cut mine and leave it an inch high.then will it be ok for next year? do they all turn yellow like that?
-
@SnowWhiteDove7 Yes when the plant goes dormant, and the leaves start turning yellow to brown you gotta cut it off to just about an inch above the ground.

I finally got a dicentra spectabilis plant. My mother came home with it on my birthday. Any tips on caring for it? I know they don't like heat and I have to keep it in the pot near our porch order to keep it out of too much sun. It's a pretty big pot and plant but I still fear it'll get root bound. Do they do okay in pots? I also don't want to mistake it as dead if it ends up dormant in summer.
I want a dicentra spectabilis so bad and I can find them no where in Lowes or home depot! D8

check with your local independent garden center. Lowes and HD can only carry limited quantities of certain varieties. Also, your local Garden center can possibly order specific plants that you want.
