Anger and grief following a U.S air raid! The raid left 9 children dead in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan. And it has prompted hundreds of people to stage a protest in Kabul and denounce the latest deaths.

Chanting anti U.S slogans, these protestors were calling for a massive uprising against the U.S troops. They said the U.S troops committed genocide against Afghans.

The children were collecting fire wood when they were killed. The U.S military admitted this. But the deaths have put President Karzai in a difficult situation. He is now under enormous criticism for failing to protect his own people.
However, he has usually stressed the importance of preventing civilian deaths. Rights groups say over 300 civilians were killed in the past 2 months alone in this country.

This is not the first time that Afghans are protesting against civilian deaths by the U.S led forces. But this time, it is not only civilian casualties that has angered these people, but also the US plan to set up permanent military bases here in Afghanistan.

People here warn the U.S against establishing permanent military bases. This woman says permanent bases would further prolong the US so-called war on terror. She wants the U.S to leave Afghanistan.
President Karzai has recently confirmed the plan. Now the U.S officials are in talks with Karzai about their plan. They are hoping to get support of the Afghans for setting up their permanent military bases, but Afghans say they are strongly opposed to this move.
