U.S. Soldiers, civilians, and United Nations representatives visit the Ruins of Nineveh in Mosul, Iraq, Nov. 22, 2008.

Nineveh is the fourth capital of the Assyrian Empire, built by King Sennacherib between 704 - 681 B.C. The site sits within the city of Mosul enclosed by a wall 12 km long and features the Gate of Nergal and a deteriorated palace.

  • Thanks for sharing. Glad you guys have a little time for sightseeing these days.

  • Nice. The war, it appears, is almost won. Thanks to the Surge that was bitterly opposed by antiwar groups who craved failure and wanted a full blown civil war in Iraq. This has thankfully been averted.

    Good job.
