Captain Foster plans on raiding German-occupied Tobruk with hand- picked commandos, but a mixup leaves him with a medical unit led by a Quaker conscientious objector. Despite all odds they succeed with their mission. On the way they pick up and drug the mistress of an Italian general, blow up the entire fuel supply for the Afrika Korps, and swap philatelic gossip with Field Marshal Erwin Rommel.

  • Yes, pretty bad. There are an awful lot of 70s haircuts in the film and the Italian girl who is in it is wearing fashions that didn't exist before the 1960s.

  • A very bad, low budget movie made using archive footage from Tobruk (1967).

  • THE BEST GENERAL !

  • great movie

  • Richard Burton had his hair dyed so they could use long shots of George Peppard from "Tobruk".

  • Wolfgang Preiss and Karl-Otto Alberty presumably needed the money, as of course did Richard Burton.

  • what i find funny was that the Afrika Korp was a spent force by 1943. the Americans joined in the last 3 months of the 2 year battle. but to make a "good" movie the enemyhad to be tough!! not the poorly equiped force Rommels troops actually were then. I HATE HOLLYWOOD!!!!!!

  • At no time in 1943 was Tobruk in the hands of the Germans. The date should be 1942 if any realism is to be given to this film.

I have only seen the beginning so maybe they are going to go through a time warp or something - in which case I apologise for speaking when I should have remained silent.

  • "I was here first and this is my photo to prove it! Then who took the bloody thing???

  • "borrows heavily from 'Tobruk'" is being polite. At least half the footage from this film is lifted directly out of 'Tobruk.' (1967) Why that film isn't available on video, and this one is still kicking around is beyond me. When I first stumbled into 'Raid on Rommel' late one night on TV, I thought it was a joke, like 'Mystery Science Theater 3000" or some other goof where they play Mr Potato Head with one film to make another...

  • Damn I just got this film yesterday for £5 is it worth keeping or is it just bad acting all over?

  • What is Saddam Hussein doing in Africa? 09:30
