Request from Holland. This is in A Minor (relative minor key to C Major). There is a misconception that C Major songs are easier to play. Not so.

The Eb Minor (original key) version was requested and done. Notice how smoothly the fingers move around in the Eb Version compared to this. Including the black keys makes the piece easier to play.

This tutorial has three parts:
1) Complete song at Tempo
2) Sections at Half Tempo (2:01)
3) Right Hand slower on the more difficult Sections (4:12)

"Take Five" is a jazz piece written by Paul Desmond and performed by The Dave Brubeck Quartet on their 1959 album Time Out. The piece became one of the group's best-known records and became famous for its distinctive, catchy saxophone melody and use of the unusual quintuple (5/4) time, from which its name is derived.

  • That scares me.

The music played is normal yet the hands are diabolical.

  • @RyeBai see a shrink? good luck.

  • The original is in E- I believe? anyway, that doesn't really matter.

But the B-/ D should really be played with the left hand!

  • @TheMrbrainwash read the video description?

re the LH, I play as the score notates.

  • take a look at the sheet

  • @TheMrbrainwash: The original is in Eb, and it had no keyboard break. 5/4 was a Desmond/Brubeck trio played collaboration (more or less). The keyboard score is it's "kick" as it carries the bass and rhythm rather than the melody. When written, it was difficult with the band -- now with auto-transpose it's a piece of cake (the sax originally carried the melody). Try it old and new style and you'll immediately notice the keyboard difficulty. Very clever version of modern Jazz.

  • @RyeBai Yeah, you're kind of a retard, RyeBai

  • Well, I'm a recorder player and I can tell this tonality is better on my instrument than the Eb original mood. I was looking for an A minor version of the tune and findthis tutorial. Very intersting.

  • bravissimaaa!!! XD

  • jazz scales are so interesting

  • your fantasic

  • yeah but in the actual song the piano pretty much plays the same thing for the whole song, it doesnt do that sax part...
