I installed Windows 7 (32x pro edition) on my (old) Dell latitude D620 with :
intel core 2 duo 1.6 GHz, 1 GB Ram, 80 GB hard drive.

Well, it works to my taste !

  • Yeah, i was exagerating there for the joke ! Still, compared to the new ultra thin laptops , its a bit clunky to lug around, no ? Still, the performance is quite good for most tasks.

  • Great news about your DELL's.

Some of the older models are still great for many purposes, especially if you have a fast processor, and some extra RAM.

Still, the more modern designs are sleek !

  • For those that have driver questions please be aware that the drivers arent provided by Dell but they are provided via windows updates. I work for a large corporation and was in the pilot project for the windows 7 deployment. We used d620 for testing and the results were amazing windows 7 actualy outperformed windows xp in benchmarks . Sorry about spelling I am French and didnt install the spell check plugin yet ...

  • @zeguine Hi and thanks for your comments, great to have 'real' technical advice ! Its been a year or so, and Win 7 pro is working just fine on my laptop. Only bug, the hard drive is a little small, but that could be changed easily. I am so glad NOT to have XP !!!!

  • @SoulmateParis Oh, and your spelling looks fine to me !

    Have a good day...

  • It's been a while, but I think I installed drivers for the Win Vista version from the Dell web site (choosing the D620 page).

  • Vintage, lol, these were put out of production around 2008, maybe even 2009 (?).

  • @MindHunger True. Also his processor clock speed is only 1.6Ghz which seems pretty fast, whilst other later models, D630 and D830 comes in 2.2Ghz or 2.5Ghz processors.

  • I have a Dell D830 and it's not vintage, it still run as fast as today's laptops with the bonus of a WUXGA screen. It's awesome.

  • I installed a 500 gb on my d620. I love it its not the fastest laptop but fast enough for me. Small great for travelling .

  • whats with nvidia ?ratings
