I don't know much about projectors, but if you get a good enough one can it look as good as a 1080p HDTV? I mean will the picture look faded?

When installing a projector there are a number of issues to consider.
1. Dark room. A projector cannot project black. The darkest shade of black is determined by the ambient light level in a room. 800 - 900 ANSI Lumen MAX!
2. Quality of the source. Remember if the image is 4 time bigger than a 50" TV the resolution remains the same and is spread over a bigger area.
Use a Good quality Source, Scaler, Projector & screen in a dark room and the picture will knock any plasma for 6.
