This is the reason why I chose AT&T than verizon because of the GSM technology AT&T has. But I really hate their network!

So, yes, they have done it. They have redesigned this phone internally and have even made a couple of external changes. This is still a 3G only device regardless of carrier,this is NOT a 4G-LTE device. This is the same device with the addition of "mobile hot spot" but w/o the ability to use data and voice simultaneously.(lame)Physical changes mean incompatibility with current accessories (cases/skins). Now you all have a frankenphone version for verizon, congrats!

I will be going with Verizon....The family family plan 1 smart phone,the iphone and 4 texting ,and pic capable phones...

For u.s. consumer i guess the cdma iphone would be both good and bad if its a world phone like the bb storm because with cdma and gsm in the same phone it gives you the option to use with any carrier in and outside the u.s. via unlocking gsm or flashing cdma carriers. I'm not sure whether or not I would care too much for the verizon iphone 5 even if it is a world gsm/cdma phone because my iphone 4 has served pretty decently on my t-mobile (u.s.) but well find out feb. 3rd everything aboutiphone5

Yes, I have seen GSM/CDMA versions of the same phone before, but it is not very common and a very expensive undertaking. You must also consider the exclusivity of the iPhone/AT&T partnership at the moment. Apple has always been a niche product and that works very well for them, why would they create this “universal” phone you are all so insistent upon? Did you ever consider that maybe they don’t want anyone/everyone to own this device? This is not some plastic,generic,open-source droid P.O.S.
