This place used to be a public restroom that teenagers now use as a place to get drunk/high. It's not exactly as "mysterious" as some people like to think it is. It IS rather pretty though, with all the trees around it and the river nearby and the moss growing over it... regardless of it's, erm, past use.

The monument stated that the building was a bathroom, and it was destroyed in the columbus day storm, the only trading post was up on cornell Rd on the top of the canyon where the autobahn society building and bird sanctuary are today, it was a collection of small farms in the late 19th century. the so called "witches castle" is a BATHROOM... im so sorry to invoke the dreaded cognitive dissonance but its the truth.

@wa4lrm It could be. I had some great parties there 20 yrs ago. It does get super spooky at night. Be careful though, it's a bit of a walk down the trail and if you need the police or emergency services so keep that in mind. Leaving the park, I like going taking the upper left trail (when you stand at the castle and face the creek) that leads to a field. You can easily get onto Thurman via some back streets that way.

Witches Castle! Oh man. I practically came of age on that very spot. Had my first mushroom trip there. Man, the stories I could tell of that place. Me and that building got history, man.

There's nothing haunted about this area, sorry.

The Witch's Castle was a Bathroom and storage building built when they were trying to build a Bridge up there. The Castle itself is not haunted but that area itself has some serious Paranormal Activity.I have been there in the dead of night and there is a presence there that is not friendly. It was not bad at first but as I stayed there and sat in the log I felt pressure and malevolence and had to leave.I have pictures of some Orbs in the area.

Maybe this would be a good place for Halloween parties. I have hiked past this place many times when I lived at Portland. I never experience anything like this here. It is located near the junction of Wildwood Trail and Lower Macleay Trail.

@TatooVampire Wrong. It was an old public toilet. The damage was done to it during The Columbus Day Storm in 1962. If you go east of Portland along the Columbia river you will see lots of things made out of that same stone. If you go to Eagle Creek Park up there you will find other public toilets just like this building but they are still in good shape. People are so gullible.

@RotorDemon All up around old parts of Portland and up and down the Columbia River there are old stone public toilets and camp sites. It's just part of the coolness of Oregon. Trust me, this is not haunted and not a witches house. :)

Public toilets destroyed in the Columbus Day storm in 1962.

This is very like the grounds of Berry Pomeroy Castle (Torbay area, Devon, UK) both in look and atmosphere. It's also said to be haunted
We're putting up a new website soon.
We're not out to debunk the ghosts, legends and myths, but just report them, sometimes with a little humor. :)
We'll be adding stories on the Grand Lodge, Shanghai Tunnels that was filmed at midnight on Halloween, Several Graveyards and haunted areas around Portland, A haunted insane Asylum and many more. Stay tuned and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE!
