I made this video while walking in the Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park 所沢航空記念公園 in Tokorozawa Japan. The video starts out near the Tokorozawa Aviation Museum 所沢航空発祥記念館. I'm standing on what was the original runway for the first ever Airfield in Japan. Which opened in 1911. Next view is of Koku Koen Station across the street from the park. More views walking around, and some views of a popular fishing pond in the Park.

  • Nice video that brings back a lot of memories.

The park was built on parts of the former US Army Camp Tokorozawa base which closed in 1974. Many of the old roads still exist and

a few signs of the old camp remain.

  • Yeah I knew that. There is still (or was when I was there) a very big US Air Force Transmitter Site across the road. I believe the history of the site goes back a lot farther then that. From what I've read, the layout is on the original runways for the first Air Field in Japan.

So yeah there is a lot of history there.

  • "Do you like Japan?"

Yea, I had a lot fun there.

"Do you have an impression after you enjoyed Japan?"

Umm, well I guess it would be that. Even though people in different parts of the world have different cultures, life is pretty much the same everywhere. Japanese or Americans, everyone does the same things every day. They go to work, go to school, go fishing.

Sorry my answer is probably boring, but that's my main impression.

  • around 1974-1975 I worked at the Transmitter site. Was one of the airforce guys.

  • Thanks for this video. I lived a couple of blocks from the pond between 1999-2004and continued living a few stops away on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line until a few months ago. This brings back a lot of good memories now that I'm back in the U.S.

The radio transmitter site is still there. I enjoyed exercising around it many times. As of last year, there was a big banner near the city office which translates as, "Return all of the base land." I used to see Air Force guys inside sometimes.

  • Thank you for your answer.

I am always looking forward to watching your new video.
