  • Interesting stuff. You make it seem that a dysfunctional family is the root cause of DP, but do you recognize that this is not always the case? In my situation I have always been very critical of myself and my mental abilities and accomplishments which can contribute to emotional pain and stress, but this is independent of my family situation.

  • @thestrapman I don't know what your particular circumstances are, but being self critical is often caused by a sub optimal family situation. I talk a lot about the cognitive aspects of depersonalization as well. Dysfunctional families are often the underlying problem that leads to a predisposition for acquiring DP. This predisposition leads to the disorder when other risk factors are present, such as interpersonal trauma, a stressful lifestyle, traumatic events, etc.

  • What do you think about people who developed DP DR Anxiety because getting panic attacks from weed. I dont care so much about DP DR because its really almost like cured (my DP DR gets increased when eating food or other symptoms) but i have problems with anxiety and depression (it feels like fear in chest and saddnes in chest for no reason) I have no trigger actually. But when i get it it really affects my thinking because i feel fear of course or saddnes.

So what do you think? :)

    Thanks!!!

  • @Kitarist88 Glad to hear that your DP/DR is getting better. As far as marijuana goes, it's basically a "trigger" of DP, not the actual cause. The actual underlying cause is a combination of emotional pain, trauma, accumulated stress, etc. I have an article on my site called "Why Do Some People Acquire Depersonalization and Not Others?" that goes into this in some detail.

  • Thanks so much for this vid!

  • All this is amazing info!!!

  • what will smoking pot do to me if i already have DP? will it make me better or scare the fuck out of me?

  • understanding depersonalization just makes me feel more depersonalized. oh well at least i can blame it all on my family...

  • @thestrapman Yeah Harris is right. The reason you are DPing is because you have a predisposition ijn some form that has to do with the people around you but is rooted from yourself.

  • I have two things now I feel I can get infected by any pattern behaviour I dislike or any way of thinking I percieve from other people is this also deperzonalization I feel like If I am myzelf I am going to explode or bad will happen why? how to heal it?

  • I have had this for 2 years..I just found out today what I have...its killin me.
