In this installment of our interview with George Monbiot on the science of climate change, we discuss practical solutions to global warming and ask "How can we achieve a 90% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions?" Monbiot shares his research on the world's most innovative ideas for change.

George Monbiot is a columnist for the Guardian and author of the bestselling books Captive State, The Age of Consent and Heat: How to Stop the Planet from Burning.

  • I agree. Monbiot brings it very clearly: on c.c. denial, on greenwash, and on the viability of conservation efferts and the transformation to green society with 90% cuts in GHG emissions. Every state leader in the world should be singing his praises and implementing his ideas.

  • I am studying Earth Science at University and Monbiot's arguments on the green house effect are in concurrence with those of every one of my professors. They do not appear to be exaggerated.

  • @334286 I'm not really sure what you're trying to say here. I certainly don't want to kill you anyway. All I was pointing out was that if you say you "don't believe in knowledge" then you can't really "know" anything can you? If you don't believe in knowledge, then you don't believe in belief, therefore you can't even believe in not beliving in knowledge. I'm curious, why don't you believe in gaining knowledge of evidence and science? Are you surprised if people don't take you seriously?

  • @GabrielNeil21 Well just kill me and leave me alone then. I know nothing therefore I am nothing, a nobody. Not to be listened to, taken seriously or even worthy of existence. Only worthy, knowledgeable people such as you should be taken seriously. People who are educated and have lots of facts, knowledge and plenty of evidence to justify their beliefs. People who read and study and learn new facts every day. University educated scientists and well-read scholars, not me. Don't worry, you're safe.

  • @334286 That's a very good question, but since you don't believe in evidence or knowledge, then you can't really ever "know" anything. If you don't believe in knowledge, then how can you really know about ides like god, or truth, or fairness?Or even that you exist?

  • This guy lives in teletubby land. Here we have a Grand solar minimum with abrupt global cooling and we get this carbon crap . Rent a battery! Rent a loon more like.

  • @pyork2007 That's because you believe most scientists and modern science. I don't! I don't believe in global warming or evolution. I believe in God. I believe in creation, truth, fairness and goodness, not facts, knowledge and evidence. Am I ignorant? Am I mislead by fantasy and superstition? Should I be mocked, ridiculed, beaten up and left for dead? I deny, because that's what I am, a denier. I deny facts and evidence (from most scientists, anyway) so what should become of me?

  • "Global Warming" is a fraud designed to destroy democracy and implement a world government via carbon taxes.

    Wake up people!

  • Noeone has described what possible agenda governments would be serving by stating the existence and negative sonsequences of global warming, if there were no such thing.

What government wants to spend billions of taxpayers money unecesarily?

  • Monbiot is a total asshole. Dropping nuclear and fossil fuels would mean mass genocide but that's what to expect from fascists like this.

  • @sanctumtheatre There is no human signal in the trend which has been going on for 300 years well before human industry, we are at the peak of a holocene climactic optimum, well within natural variability.

There have been ice ages with low CO2 and with high, solar radiation and resulting cloud cover drives climate change CO2 is a minor GHG and has little effect.

Far from conspiracy? they always let every evil proposal fail publicly the first time then phase it in under our noses. (politics 101)

  • Monbiot is a scumbag shill and is wrong on pretty much everything.

I'd love to debate him on climate change (where there is no man-made trend in the signal, co2 lags temp by 800 years, sea temps and levels have not risen significantly, ice levels normal, IPCC models wrong on many counts e.g relative humidity in upper troposphere, CO2 forcing, low level cloud albedo, solar radiation etc exclusion of high alt stations, hide mediaeval warm period, etc)

911 is proven to be an inside job also.
