I can still remember the first time I heard Sha-King perform. It was at a clothing store called The TimeBomb Shop which was and is to this day, an integral part of the Pittsburgh underground hiphop scene. At that time he was going by the stage name Rhesun. Producer/DJ Big Phil (now producer and owner of 33 1/3 films) of Hi-Lo Productions had brought him to the show. I was an instant fan.
Over the years he has continued to grow and hone his skills as an emcee and performer. He went on to become a member of Classic 1824/RXC and has matured as an artist/performer. I was honored to be able to create his first video.
This is another project that filmed while I was home visiting Pittsburgh in November 2009. The location an empty lot now grown over with weeds, but once was a busy shopping center in a neighborhood on the east side of Pittsburgh. It was shot in one morning and was pretty darn chilly as you would expect for a november morning in Pittsburgh.
Due to time constraints we wanted to keep things simple so there really isn't a concept to this video. Instead we wanted to focus on creating a more stylized and gritty, urban look to match the aggressive feel of the song. The explosions and fire were added in post and even some of the clouds in certain shots as it started out a very dreary and overcast day which eventually brightened up.
I edited using Final Cut Pro 7.x and added the effects using After Effects CS3.
