Now that the Trovatore contest is in full swing, I thought I would post some of the soprano's in the act IV cabaletta to this scene. Yes, this is often cut from live performance so there aren't too many videos. But here are a few.

  • Fantastica.

  • There's something really thrilling about Caballe's version of this too-often-overlooked cabaletta. I love the full-throttle sound, and yet she has the nimbleness to do the coloratura (though there are spots that leave some precision to be desired). I'm so happy to see these cabalettas, so thank you coloraturafan!

  • I love her.... but there´s something in her middle range that sometimes makes her sing out of tune. Anyway, I´ll always love her!!!

  • LIke you're anybody and know anything. Bugger off

  • The openning section is mostly under the note and the pitch problems continue throughout. As for the rest, well, you could hardly call it bel canto. The approach is too heavy and the phrasing very un-Verdian. The cape swooshing is also very distracting. The descent from the top note is clumsy.

  • LOL, yeah, the camera work is ALL over the place and horribly mixed throughout the entire recording...
