Recent studies confirm the decline of middle-class Americans and the increase of poverty. Poverty in America is at a record high, areas that used to be predominantly middle-class have been over come by poverty indicating a separation of the classes. The middle-class is slowly disappearing dividing America into a two-tiered society of rich and poor.

The studies also point out more than fifty percent of college students from wealthy families finish school and receive their degree's unlike children in the lower income levels are at less than ten percent which is a direct result of the differences in wealth. Wealthy families have the financial ability to continue their education. Education is generally a predictor of economic success.

Wealth is nothing more than a dream for millions of Americans considering children in lower income levels don't have the same educational opportunities as wealthy families. Data shows the growing gap in standardized test scores between rich and poor children and in some cases there are differences of up to fifty percent. Children in low income and poor neighborhoods tend to have less access to high-quality schools, child care, preschool as well as support networks.

Most of the shift was caused by the changing income structure in the United States. The near elimination of American manufacturing and other middle-class jobs has forced many middle-class families into lower income levels and poverty while on the other hand the wealthy has shown a considerably financial gain further dividing the rich and poor.

This separation appears to be eliminating the sense of community and creating tension between the classes. This is why protesting against wall street moguls has become popular among low income and poverty stricken Americans.

We as Americans need to understand it wasn't wall street moguls who created this divide it was our government. It started back in the early ninety's with the implementation of NAFTA and similar agreements. These agreements obliterated the American based manufacturing industry and promoted the outsourcing of millions of middle income jobs.

We hear the President and the candidates talk the talk but can they walk the walk? None of them have the true answer to the current economic and employment problems in the United States. The truth is, unless they devise a plan that can replace the instrument in which we used to create employment in the United States with another instrument that can create the same number of jobs or more the economy will continue to fail.

This will be a tall order to fill considering the business scheme has changed and Americans can't compete with the wages in foreign nations.

The success of our future generations will depend on it.
