Short demo of my Technics SL-1200. This turntable is the original SL-1200 with the DC Servo Motor, before the MKII. The cartridge is kind of unusual, a Pickering XUV with the 4500Q stylus.

The song is "Vehicle" by The Ides of March on the Warner Bros label.

  • What would be a good alternative to a Technics 1200MK2? I want to buy a turntable, don't know a whole lot about turntables, and dont want to break the bank. I was thinking like an alternative workhorse turntable to the 1200, pretty well known but not very expensive and it doesnt need a lot of extras, just the basics.

  • @theredreceivers Hi, I would consult with Kevin of KAB USA. He knows the 1200 very well. or look for used audio shops in your area and see what they offer. A local shop, audio studio, in Brookline MA was how I got back into vinyl inexpensively. then you can save on used but have the back up of a solid analog repair person.

  • SL-1200mk2 still the best .... for DJ and HOME

  • awesome tunage.

  • did you need a seperate preamp for that?

  • I remember the first time I got my 1200MK2s was back in 1991...and at that time, the turntables were only $299 each.

Shocking how the price got to be at $799, today.
