The physical and information singularites do share divide by zero mathematics problems. In physics the divisor is distance, with Vinge's singularity it's technology life-cycle time.

Do the math and the predictions are not so fanciful as you suppose. HDTV giving way to 3D tv. Makerbot is under $1K. Venter synthesized life. All 2010 stuff leading to unpredictable 2020 stuff.
