@deckywalsh1 I could understand that. I mean, I had a great uncle who had that same issue, because he had bladder cancer. He was the older brother of my paternal grandmother, and I remember the entire family worrying about him before his urostomy was performed.

Im 28, I have had a urostomy for 6years. In answer to your question, no, it does not hurt. People who see my stoma think of pain. But the stoma, or the pink fleshy bit that protrudes from the tummy which the urine goes thru to the bag, it has a very rich blood supply, and is easily made to bleed, this is the biggest danger. The stoma does not have a nerve supply, so even to touch it you have no feeling, hence you cannot feel pain or any sensation from it.
