Please read the description.

I don't know how effective judging the game's picture quality will be by watching a video compressed and uploaded onto YouTube (and only 720p at that), but I'll give it a whirl.

If you're looking for an alternative to FXAA for anti-aliasing that isn't very taxing, SMAA (subpixel morphological anti-aliasing) is definitely it. It looks great without the blur imposed by FXAA, and, though it may possibly be a placebo, I swear the colors seem to "pop" more.

You can download the injector here: http://mrhaandi.blogspot.com/p/injectsmaa.html

It does come with a few quirks, however. One is that the Steam overlay will likely need to be disabled. Despite a "hack" included in the configuration to make it work, I couldn't get it to do so. I simply run the game in a window with the overlay disabled now to chat with...my one friend. Anyway, the second is that, as far as I know, the SMAA is applied to everything, including volumetric effects, menu/HUD text, etc. This may result in FPS dips when looking at light sources and whatnot. Finally, heat shaders (the distortion effect given off by sources of heat such as fire) show through solid objects, though FXAA also has this problem when used with no MSAA.

For comparison, here are a couple of other videos I've uploaded, with their anti-aliasing methods listed:

  • It indeed might be a placebo. Would you happen to know if this is software based, ie it works on GPUs that don't natively support AA?

  • @Tiel424 The author's website states:

"SMAA is a very efficient *GPU-based* MLAA implementation, capable of handling subpixel features seamlessly, and featuring an advanced pattern detection & handling mechanism."

I have to assume no dice, then.
