A sentimental song composed by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller - popularized by ELVIS in 1956. Conceived as a parody of country western music, it was initially interpreted by R&B duo Willy and Ruth in '54, then by Georgia Gibbs the same year. At the time the authors affirmed the song was one their worst. LOL!
Elvis recorded the song on 9/1/56 for his second album. It climbed to #2 position on the Billboard HOT 100 in the United States, a first for a title not coming from a single. RCA would not release Love Me as a single because they didn't want confusion with Presleys "Love Me Tender". Elvis sang Love Me on the 10/28/56 Ed Sullivan Show. Elvis included this song in the '68 Comeback Special with NBC network, and often performed it in concerts in the '70s.
