  • If Jesus' Mt 28 command was to be understood globally (all nations not all tribes of Israel), then why were the apostles derelict in their duties for at least 10 years. I fully believe we are to permeate the whole world with the Gospel but that does not appear to be what was meant by this text. Why was it necessary to give Peter special revelation to do what he (they) should have already been doing since Pentecost? They were told to go to the lost sheep in the house of Israel.

  • Acts 2:5 "And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven."

"Every nation under heaven" would have been every nation where devout men and Jews lived at that time. After Pentecost, they stayed in Jerusalem to be discipled by the Apostles. A few years, later the church was persecuted and they returned to their cities and preached in their own synagogues. Most of evangelism in the 1st century was among Jews and "God-fearers" already attending synagogue.

  • It has been so very exhilarating for me to hear Gary correctly explain the great commission! My question has to be, "when will the "discipling' of the nations be accomplished?"

  • ""of the "kingdom" during the 7-year tribulation period.""

Please anyone anywhere , copy-paste that very scripture that says that one philosophy exerp; if you can...

  • This is a strange view, because the transformation of society does not go hand and hand with the gospel preached and received.Look at supposed Christian America and how many are headed for Hell and do not know Christ, even the delusional who think the are a "saved"Christian from a one time prayer. While in communist China and other countries they are going to their graves for Christ.

  • I honestly have not settled on a position on this. The traditional dispensation view has nothing to do with the present gospel of the dispensation of grace but rather the gospel of the "kingdom" during the 7-year tribulation period.

Gary definition seems ambiguous. Does he see the "disciple" as the nation itself or does he see it as individuals within that nation?

I've always understood "disciple" in the bible to refer to individuals, not nations.

    Olympics: athletes of every nation.

  • All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God's grace in all its truth. (Colossians 1:6)

This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant. (Colossians 1:23)

  • Because Peter was hard-headed. That's why. Paul had to come along and straigten Peter out on a lot of things.

The Lord was sent to the lost sheep of Israel with the kingdom gospel which is NOT the same gospel we believe on today. The kingdom gospel was the promise of the Davidic, Messianic kingdom.

Paul in Acts 28 said the gospel he preached and received of the Lord and not of man would now go to the Gentiles.

So the Great Commission was to all "ethnos."

  • Ridiculous. The Great Commission was to GO INTO all nations. The Jews that CAME TO Israel was not the disciples GOING INTO all nations. The key word being INTO.

  • Thanks for your thoughts. I couldn't agree more. The disciples were specifically admonished to go after the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Salvation was of the Jews. However, if their understanding of the the "great commission" was to reach all "ethnos" then why didn't they carry this out immediately? Why did they wait more than 10 years? And why was it necessary for God to give Peter a special revelation of this new expanded mission to the Gentiles?
