This video is a little overview of the notable personalities of pro-wrestling early days. From carny hookers and promoter's policemen to newspaper superstars and box office attractions, pro-wrestling's history in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries is complex, concealed and utterly fascinating.

Included in this video (in chronological order with selected omissions): Caddock vs. Stecher footage, Roman Coliseum, MSG, Wrestlers from an 1895 clip, Assorted Trading Cards including J.H. McLaughlin, DeGlane-Kwarani footage, Evan Strangler Lewis, Tom Jenkins, Hans Steinke, Fred Beell, Danno O'Mahoney vs. Joe Savoldi footage, Masahiko Kimura vs. Ad Santel, DeGlane's Double Wristlock, Stu Hart, more Stecher vs. Caddock, Paul Boesch vs. Jack Sherry footage, Bronko Nagurski vs. Jim Londos footage, more Danno-Savoldi, Jim Londos Boston-crabbing Primo Carnera footage, more DeGlane-Kwarani, Caddock-Cutler (training partners), Stecher-Pesek (legendary Nebraskans), Dr. B.F. Roller x2, Ed Strangler Lewis x2, Ed Lewis & "King" Lou Thesz, Around the World Montage (Londos-Bronko background, Yvon Robert,, Londos' Boston Crab, the Duseks, Stanislaus Zbyszko, Angelo Savoldi, Dan Kolov, Bobby Managoff, Crusher Casey, Orville Brown, Gino & Leo Garibaldi),
Gotch-Hackenschmidt Montage (Hack x2, Gotch/Burns/Caddock training, Gotch in the ring, Cominsky Park show)

**I understand I left out many people and perhaps included others too much. I left out the gimmicks (French Angel, etc.), but tried to include a variety. I am an amateur pro-wrestling historian and amateur videographer. Please view my website if you'd like to access more information about early pro-wrestling and its practitioners.**

  • I think that Pro Wrestling needs to get back to its roots and go back and study what made these guys so great.

  • @BandakaKush It did, it's called MMA. I don't think many fighters study turn-of-the-century wrestling, aside from Josh Barnett, but the concepts of establishing characters, playing roles and getting moves and such over work today.

  • can you find any video of Dan Koloff??

  • @dhalsim33 the only stuff I've seen is easy to find on youtube, so I'm assuming you've seen it as well.

  • You have John Pesek labeled as Jack. Jack was his son.

    very nice production overall

  • You are 100% correct, unfortunately my original iMovie of this is long gone.
