So, I've watched many a' tutorials, and have tried to get it into DFU mode using several variations on the prescribed method, such as:

"While the iPhone is plugged in and connected to iTunes:

Press the Home key.
Reach and push the on/off/sleep key.
Hold the on/off/sleep key for 10 seconds. The display should turn off regardless what the phone is doing about 8 seconds into it.
Release the on/off/sleep key, keep the Home button down.
Eventually iTunes should pop up and say something along the lines of "there is a device in recovery mode here, and needs restored to be useful." "

or...

"Connect phone to computer while on and keep connected through rest of the steps
Turn off phone. Verify it is off by pressing the home button.

Hold power button for 3 sec
Hold power and home for 10 sec
Hold home for 30"

I have honestly tried this about 50 times, with slight variations on timing each time. Nothing!

Someone with the time or compassion to tell me what I'm doing wrong would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Update: I've upgraded to iOS 4.1, to see if that helped, and it didn't. Still stuck!

  • the trick is: hold down the home button softly, i never get my iPod into DFU, because i hold down the button very hard

  • here's my version:

    1. when the iphone is turned on, connect it with the pc

    2. than turn it off

    3. press the power button until it's turning on, than relaease the power button

    4. wait 5 seconds

    5. now press power button and home button exactly at the same time and hold it for 10 seconds

    6. after that release (only) the power button and keep on holding the home button for 15 seconds

see all

  • Dude you dont have to turn it off.. do it while its on

  • you need to hold the home and power botton longer till the apple logo desapears and the computer makes a sound.. it dont have to be necesary 10 seconds, it could be less or more...

  • @Ruyal4e

  • @xBL0CK3Rx Soft Home press worked for me. Been trying to get it to DFU with the standard procedure but I guess I was hurting my Iphone's feeling by pressing to hard on Home. Finally got it to work by being kind and gentle with it. Just ask for forgiveness guys before you gently press the Home button. LOL

  • It worked for me, restoring it right now haha

  • Just hold the power button and the home button for 10-16 Sec

  • @racefan2801 FAILED

i forgot sth. you have to hold down Home until the screen turns black again. Dont look at instructions, if the screen turns black, wait 2-3 secs and then release the lock button and hold home until the programm you use to jailbreak recognize your iPhone in DFU mode

  • @xBL0CK3Rx

  • hi guys i have foud out what was wrong! make sure u have itunes installed!

    1) keep apple device on.. and open itunes, allow it to install some drivers and sync device.

2)hold home and power till screen goes black, then hold home releasing the power button... it will enter recovery mode. allow driver to install.

3)close itune!! hold home and power to get apple logo back on and phone will start up.

4)turn off phone and do the DFU steps again it will now enter DFU mode! it just worked for me!!

  • use recreboot or somthing like that i just might work :)

    ..

  • I had the same issue on only my ipod 3gen... Have plugged in to computer. Power off. Press power button for 3 seconds. Youll see apple logo pops on at about the 1 second mark. Then press and hold the home button while still holding the power button. When the screen kicks off immediatly release the power button and continue holding home. Once you hear a noise from your computer or see redsnow start working you are in DFU mode.

  • redsn0w wont recognize that im in DFU mode any suggestions?

  • @stefisking how do u do that for mac?

  • @xBL0CK3Rx thanks so much bro that was seriously the only problem i had lmao

  • THAKS!

  • @Videosofava plug your iphone to your computer!

  • how long does it normally take to reboot?

  • I had the same problem. Solved it. Use redsnow to put it into dfu.
