Here is a WORLD-EXCLUSIVE look at some video footage from a *very* elusive MSX shmup from 1997 entitled Kyokugen (完全攻略キョクゲン), right here on YouTube!!!

Now, Kyokugen is such an incredible vertically scrolling shooting-game that is presented to you by none other than a fabulous Japanese game developer named M-Kai (M改), who eventually went on to create the truly hot Judgement Silversword series on Bandai Wonderswan.

About Kyokugen, this game has "Adventure", "3-Minute", and "5-Minute" modes. Here, I am showing you my original no-miss play of the "3-Minute" mode, which will definitely remind you of the Caravan stages of such PC-Engine/TG-16 shmups like Super Star Soldier, Final Soldier, and Soldier Blade... only MUCH hotter in the grand tradition of the famous Compile shooting games and then some, and that is just something that I am sure you do not want to miss, believe me!!! ^-^=b !!

And, while your ship can power-up regularly, it also has a "Level-Up" experience system ala Toaplan's Batsugun. By collecting the red experience tokens or destroying these token panels, you build and build upon your experence meter (shown on the top-right corner of your screen!). If that meter is full, not only do you improve your overall weapon quality dramatically, but you automatically have a free mega-blast shot without even using one of your bombs at all... VERY DAMN COOL indeed!!!! ^o^

This is quite a helluva treasure indeed for MSX2/MSX2+/MSXturboR home computer systems, and be sure to seek it out at all costs!!!

I MUST thank you so much for your wonderful watching of this exclusive shmup video on YouTube, ladies and gentlemen, and do enjoy this one quite splendidly!!! (^_~)v !!

  • I just laugh so hard as well at the unintentional comedy of that special effect, especially when you think about it, SAGAIA2!! ^o^ !

Seriously though, that effect should have been removed in the final product of this shmup Kyokugen, and since then, Japanese developer M-Kai has gone on to make much better games... all leading up to Judgement Silversword on the Wonderswan, ultimately.

When you get a chance, be sure to check that other game out if you have not played it already, ok? ;)

  • lol at the acid trip bombs :D

  • Yeah, tell me about it, RocMegamanX, as that is my only brief gripe that I had about this MSX 1997 game... if the epilepsy effects were all removed in the first place, than that would dramatically have improved the overall look of this game.

On the other hand though, Kyokugen plays extremely well in quite its own right... it just didn't need any epilepsy effects to begin with.

Shmup developers, PLEASE take note of this!! ^_~ !

  • You know, I pretty much agree with you, shiroma3084.

I think that if the humongous "filled-screen"-based explosions and the epilepsy-inducing color flashes (after your experience meter is full) are all taken away, then this shmup Kyokugen would look even better, I think.

Fortunately, developer M-Kai fixed this problematic issue in a couple of his later games that I am gonna show you later on. Stay tuned; you won't be disappointed!!! ;)

  • Whoa..what just happened?

That super bomb's liable to give someone a seizure.

  • This game looks so confusing! That explosions blind you!

And why the heck is that Mitsubishi logos there?
