Do men have an equal responsibility to prevent a physical state that only affects women? How can they be held to this responsibility when they only have reliable access to half the information?

  • Definitely agree all females should make informed decisions, but the reality that all too many women really are clueless and irresponsible, immature, etc. effectively puts guys at risk and for that reason alone guys should maintain their own responsibility regardless. The responsibility lies with both individuals - if you don't want kids, then abstain or protect yourself.

Should be common sense, but sadly it's not practiced much in a realistic scenario when hormones are on overdrive ;-)

  • @StaceyTaylorNet Unless you consider the recent survey of 5000 women done by That's Life magazine in Scotland, where a full 42% said they'd lie about birth control to get pregnant, regardless of a partner's wishes, and 83% said they'd told huge, life-changing lies to a partner, 13% saying they do so frequently.

I think in that context, it goes beyond women being ill-informed or clueless or irresponsible.

The more reading I do, the more I feel men should bear zero responsibility.

  • The reason I don't think your nut allergy analogy doesn't hold up is because most people aren't allergic to nuts. It would be ridiculous for a waiter at a restaurant, for example, to take extraordinary preventative measures to make sure no one who is allergic to nuts eats one, BECAUSE most people aren't allergic to nuts. When a man has sex with a woman he knows that she has a chance of becoming pregnant. Whether or not your thesis is correct is another question, but that analogy isn't stong.

  • @GtrGuy99 So when a man and a woman are in a relationship and they've decided their measures are going to be, say, the pill...he has to assume, every time they have sex, that she might no longer be on the pill and didn't bother to tell him? And how can he know, other than taking her at her word?

A man and a woman hook up for a one-night stand. He should assume that she's intending to get pregnant by him? Every sane woman I know who's into that will be taking measures or insisting on them.(cont)

  • @girlwriteswhat If I eat something I know has nuts in it, it's my fault if I get sick. If a woman has sex--while simultaneously being the only party who's actually in the know as to what measures are taken and what measures are necessary--then it's her responsibility.

Unless you think SHE doesn't realize sex leads to pregnancy?

  • I kind of agree, but I don't think women's prevention should be something she keeps secret. I believe the man has a right to know, and that it should be shared knowledge between both parties. Rather than just "it's your job to do it and you have all responsibility", I'd say he should know what she's using and then he also deciding whether just that kind of prevention and no condom is a risk HE wants to take. It goes both ways.

  • @Monkeydominator Well, I would agree with you, if there was any a man could protect himself from deceit or carelessness on the part of a woman who withheld information, outright lied, or was irresponsible about sharing that information.

He should know what she's using. How does he find out, other than asking her and taking her at her word?

  • Uncle Ben says, "With great power comes great responsiblity."

  • I have ADHD and was diagnosed when I was a teen. I have to take a capsule by mouth every morning in order to boost my ability to remember and to focus. If I forget to take it, Its my fault and mine alone. And swallowing a capsule or tablet everyday isn't a difficult task to remember and do, even for someone who has trouble remembering like me. ;)

  • I love everything you're saying here. The U.S. government actually makes it quite easy for middle, low and no-income women to receive birth control. I'm in a very Republican state, and still I can receive birth control from the local health department for $10 a month. When I am not taking birth control, I feel it is absolutely my sex partner's prerogative to know that I am not, just as it is both our priorities to prevent disease. It's a matter of respect to them as a human being.

  • I appreciate your view, but I disagree that it's a woman's job to prevent pregnancy. I believe that every man needs to be responsible for his DNA and to makes sure that he's responsible to keep it to himself unless/until he's ready to help make a child. And I'm a man.

    Great video.

  • @StaceyTaylorNet Because they're clueless means two peoples lives should be ruined? (The man and child).

What you are saying is men should stop thinking and become irresponsible so we can have the state take care of us?

  • @girlwriteswhat Maybe numbers and the amount of reading you do can validate your opinion. But the fact is that, life cannot happen if both sexes didn't do their part. So there must be some accountability on both sides. I personally think that, most of us, living in a modern society, know what measures we can take to prevent pregnancy. We just choose not to use it. What a man should or should not do is up to him. But condoms are here for a reason, so use them.

  • @girlwriteswhat Women insist on ownership of their bodies maybe they should also consider ownership of babies that their boyfriend/husband did not want as well. You are perhaps the first woman to come out and pose this question on a YT video. My heartfelt congratulations to you.You are a modern day pioneer.

  • @crimsonsil They wanted to get her preggers and they both resulted in pregnancy. Girls aren't the only ones who can lie.
