Should kids eat a vegan diet?

Last month we had the pleasure of
taking a vacation in Catalina with
bestselling author Jeffrey Masson, and
his pediatrician wife, Leila Masson MD.

While there, we interviewed both of them
on a number of topics, one of them being
whether kids should be raised on a vegan
diet.

You may be interested to hear what Dr. Leila
has to say on this subject.

And your friends who ask questions like:

"How do your kids get their protein?"

"Isn't the vegan diet dangerous for children?"

"Don't your kids just want to be like normal
kids?"

Those friends of yours might want to watch
this, too.

  • Wouldn't it be good if the Vegan Diet was know and understood as the "Human Diet"

  • @informationgnrtr That is incorrect. Children can still get the neccasary protein needed on a vagen diet and still excel in school if you feed them high protein such as lentils and peanuts or any legumes. Stay away from soy unless its textured soy bean products such as tvp or soy sauce. Make sure they eat fruits like lots of bananas. Give them only whole grains. Keep them hydrated and give them supplements like vitamin D, Iron, folic acid and vitamin b12. Whole food is the key in a vagan diet.

  • @bryanhudsonyork dropping vitamin b12 pills isn't natural..

  • @MrBrutus101 Exactly why you shouldn't be consuming their dairy because you're not a cow and can't process it, your not designed to process it. Case in point.

  • @MrBrutus101 If you can go 100% then it's the ultimate in natural health (you don't see any other species on earth roasting food by the spitfire). 75% is likely the highest the average person can achieve with winter being the hardest and most testing season. The more you go raw though the less taste you have for cooked, I say this from experience. The key is in gradual steps from cooked to raw; allow for transition.

  • @seinfeildsucks TVP is not good to give to kids. The supplements you mention should be gained from the food not artificial supplements. B12 is really the only supplement anyone needs to take on a vegan diet & even then no where near as much as we're told we need. Vit D can be gained from the sun (which kids love to play out in) then in winter, plenty of mushrooms. The more raw they'll eat the better.

  • @1221solstice2012 I don't recomment 100% raw. That's why i'm flexitarian. Although sashimi sounds really good. I do raw egg, banana, and papaya in blender in the morning.

Sorry I want to argue more, but I have to go to a New Year's Eve party. Cheers!

  • @MrBrutus101 Where do you get "anger" from what I said? Paranoia is a better sign of chemical imbalance as well as repressed guilt, especially when your in a vast majority. Nice straw man attempt about the cows again...I already told you where we humans should get our calcium, not from grass, I just made the point that all our needed nutrition comes from good, rich soil... nutball :-) And I'm not a raw foodie but have no problem with those who are; I try to eat a lot of raw fruits & veggies.

  • @1221solstice2012 I'm not going to stop you, but you will find out soon enough. It's good to be vegetarian, but not 100% raw.

Are you angry? It's a good sign of chemical imbalance.

  • @1221solstice2012 LOL! Cows are built differently from humans. Not a great parallel.

  • @MrBrutus101 Obsessed much? I'm vegan 20+ years and not so young but pass for much younger; my bones & everything else are mighty fine, but thanks for all that heartfelt concern, lol. Calcium is in almonds, green leafy veggies, blackstrap molasses, figs, fortified almond milk, tofu processed with calcium salts, most of which I eat daily, no problem...grass I don't like; but in nature, cows get calcium and everything else including B12 from grass, not from stealing another species' milk.
