Farewell Carlton Cinema.

@chaoreturnsforgood76 On ITVDigital, Carlton Cinema broadcast everything in anamorphic 16:9. They added black bars on the sides when showing 4:3 material.

That is kind of sad.

March 31st, 2003 was a Monday, not a Wednesday!

Carlton Cinema - quite simply the best film channel EVER on UK tv. Themed seasons, classic films, new films, all genres - EVERYTHING was on Carlton Cinema, no other channel can touch it for movie lovers before or since. Very, very sad when the channel closed down.

@steviegTVreturns Actually Rank Screen Advertising was renamed to RSA Advertising in 1992 and then Cinema Media in 1995 until 1997 when Carlton took over RSA Advertising it was renamed to Carlton Screen Advertising (CSA) it ceased to exist 3 years ago and it's now DCM.

Body Heat? A nice name for a film!!

@steviegTVreturns Hey, Carlton Screen Advertising is still shown in ireland.
Yes, it's DCM (Digital Cinema Media) in the UK now.

There were plans to put Carlton Cinema on Sky(and it nearly happened) but those talks collapsed and it never happened.
If Carlton Cinema was a 4:3 channel how come the idents/menus and trailers are in 16:9 and mainly in 14:9?

@chaoreturnsforgood76 Not sure to be honest, the continuity was always 4:3 on NTL, I can't remember for the films. But I do recall it being true 16:9 on On/ITV Digital.

@ 3:30 - song makes me cry, why did itv digital have to go blow out in 2002!?

@utubeguy35 Simple too few subscribers, crap software, crap hardware, aggresive marketing by Sky, ITV Digital paying way over the odds for the Football League. I think Carlton should have made this station available on Sky though, as it was a decent film channel, I preferred this to TCM personally.

The film was Body Heat from 1981, and it was shown around 11 PM at night. The channel went off the air (when you recorded) at 1:40 AM.

@utubeguy35 Nope, the film was Body Heat, but the station went off air at 11.40pm, as I stayed up to record this, the channel was replaced on NTL with a caption at 12.00am.
