Karen Kibuchi is the mother of a child with multiple disabilities. She voices her daughter, Daniellas story. Daniella was born with Cornelia De Lange syndrome. She has been turned away from schools, and is stared at when she is out with her family. She doesn't let this get her down though. Daniella, enjoys time with her family and plays with other children when she gets the chance. She has outlived the life expectancy predicted by doctors with the care and love of her family. Karen is an activist, who promotes the rights of children with disabilities and their families; and leads a parent support group. This story was made at a 5-day workshop in 2009 organised by the African Decade of Persons with Disabilities, in association with WomensNet and the Association for Progressive Communications.
