  • @the81stviewer They used a mirror that sat atop the organ manual. When we performed this symphony at my college, that is how it was done.

  • So. How would this have been conducted in Saint Saens time? Suppose the organ was faceing, like in this case, AWAY from the conductor. There were no tv screens in the organs back then to notify the organist of the cues.

  • This is a warhorse that in the wrong conductor's hands can be quite unimpressive. This is a VERY satisfying experience. The brass and organ were overwhelming at times but not in the usual way I'm used to (accents are usually obliterated by uncontrolled walls of sound). This was tastefully done and no one in sight was French. Now THAT'S an accomplishment! Bravi!
