Hassan Fathy was an architect, who worked in Egypt to improve the lives of impoverished communities. Through his use of mud brick and the Egyptian building vernacular, he responded to the desert environment while building important infrastructure like schools. His economic and environmental approach still pertains to designers today. Learn more about Fathy in Architecture for the Poor: an Experiment in Rural Egypt.
