When Greg's father Verne put the sleeper on an opponent, the crowds used to go wild with excitement. I notice that there was hardly any reaction from the audience for this match when Greg put on the hold. He didn't have the ability to get the crowds worked up. If his father hadn't been an ex-champ, he would never have been in pro wrestling.

@daredevilpre You're right. In a way I feel sorry for him because GG could have had a decent career in WWE. I heard he had offers from Mcmahon & co but stayed with his father and AWA. I have to admit I wonder what kind of gimmick the WWE would have done with Gagne. I could have seen him going for the I-C title at the very least.

They went to great lengths to set Greg up as a legit heavy weight wrestler. He really was awesome and used a mixture of old time moves and modern styles, the Gagne Sleeper was feared like the Iron Claw or the Cobra Clutch and greg body slammed huge wrestlers. He just looked wrong.
He should have been light heavy weight champ a dozen times and teamed with a bunch of different people for the tag titles.
That Samoan was awful.

Something just does not jive here. Greg Gagne is either a pro wrestler usually with a solid tag team partner to look better or selling automobiles. There just seems to be no in between it's an absolute either one or the other. I wonder if "The Barbarian/Bezerker" Yukon John Nord helped Greg start in the auto sales business. This would be odd considering John Nord was shafted on pay for loaning wrestlers cars as per Larry Nelson's Book "Stranglehold."

The International TV Title was an alternate prize for Greg since he did not have the Green Light from The AWA Backers to win the world title. The other wrestlers in this bogus tournament may as well perform at half speed to avoid the risk of injury for a title they cannot possibly win. The Samoan Destroyer looks as though he could knock Greg Gagne out cold. Greg was lucky to win this match. I wish The Samoan Destroyer won. Greg Gagne looks like a PGA Golfer or Tennis Player not a Pro Wrestler.
