Watch an interview with Andrew C. Axilrod, MD, the director of Male Sexual Health in the Division of Urology at Penn Medicine.

"Sexual therapy is a lot more than just about sex. I think sexual therapy is vitally important for men; it gives doctors the opportunity to identify undiagnosed conditions such as; diabetes, hypertension, coronary artery disease, problems with lipids such as cholesterol and triglycerides so that the burden of proof on the physician is to find out what has caused the problem to occur, help patients with their presenting problem, their inability to have satisfactory erection, but more importantly, to address their other medical issues."

"The patients I see often times present with lower urinary tract complaints. They complain of frequency, waking up from sleep at night urgently needing to go to the bathroom to empty their bladder, sometimes urinary incontinence."

"The other large group of patients I see are patients with sexual complaints. Patients with sexual complaints have problems not just with the quality of the erections that they have, but also can have problems with premature ejaculation or penial deformity."

"I think one of the advantages of patients coming to see us is that there are a team of physicians which are available to help patients with their specific problems. I think there's a lot of congeniality amount the physicians that work here. I think that the quality of the physicians who work here is excellent. And ultimately, what drives physicians interests are patient outcomes."

My name is Andrew Axilrod. I'm director of Male Sexual Health in the Division of Urology at Penn Medicine."
