I absolutely LOVE Jane Eyre! And when the one guy mentioned Death of a Salesman I had to laugh because my AP English class was all over it. I would also add to the list of things people should read anything by Oscar Wilde. He is was a great satirical writer and I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Importance of Being Earnest by him.

Hell yeah for dude at 1:17 recommending Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree.
That's a great, easy read.
If you want something relatively easy to digest, yet still fairly profound, Kurt Vonnegut might work for ya.
If you're ready for the more advanced stuff- try either Don Quixote (by Cervantes), or Laurence Stern's The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman.
Sterne would be better, if only because his is originally in English- but if you try it, bring patience and a sense of humor.
