This is the third version of experimenting with a number of filters to simulate a "Waking Life" look. The first version is here:

Photographer Robert Giordano shot this video of South Florida band, Sick Assembled, at Hooligan's in Boca Raton. He used a Nikon D7000 with a Nikkor 35mm f1.8 lens. Exposure was f1.8/30 and ISO 1600. He recorded the sound with a Zoom H2 digital audio recorder mounted to the hot shoe of the D7000.
This band was loud and the D7000's built-in microphone would not have been able to handle the audio input with its built in microphone. The Zoom H2 connected to the stereo input jack on the D7000 so there was no need to sync audio in post. The ability to connect an external, stereo microphone, combined with the superior quality of the 1080p video in low light is what makes the Nikon D7000 a leap ahead the Nikon D90 and even a step above the Canon 7D.
The was processed in Adobe Premiere using the following built-in effects:
Video layer 1
- Dust & Scratches
- Levels
- Find Edges
- Black & White
Video layer 2, duplicate of layer 1, set to blend mode Multiply:
- Levels
- Posterize
If anyone has their own methods of creating a "Waking Life" look without third party plugins, please share your tips in the comments.
