Abune Paulos aka Abune Diabilos VS. Abune Merkorios :::::NitroEthiopians::::::

Ablune Paulos is the illegal Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church imposed from 1992 to the present. His full title is "His Holiness Abune Paulos, Fifth Patriarch (re-ese Liqane Papasat) of Ethiopia, Echege of the See of St. Takla Haymanot and Archbishop of Axum". Patriarch Abune Paulos was born from Gebre Igziabiher Wolde Yohannes in 1935 in the town of Adowa in the Province of Tigrai in northern Ethiopia.

Following the fall of the Derg regime in 1991, the then Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Abune Merkorios, was dethroned by Government pressure in circumstances that remain under dispute. Patriarch Abune Merkorios and his supporters maintain that he was forced from office by the new EPRDF regime and it's supporters. His attempt to reverse his abdication was refused by the Synodical cou de ta of the Church which authorized a new Patriarchal election. Abune Paulos was said to have been elected to office in 1992 and was enthroned. Abune Merkorios and some of his supporters went into exile establishing the legal synod in exile in the United States.

1)I understand that Abba Merkerios went into exile (this too does not take precedence in the EOTC and Orthodox history), but did he excommunicate Paulos?

2)Let me state that Im not for Paulos or Merkerios. I am for the Apostolic heritage (including succession) carrying on undefiled, and for the life -giving body and blood of Jesus Christ!

I am also aware that the Coptic Episcopate reluctantly received Paulos. Im sure that HH Pope Shenouda III is a discerning man. If they have moved on shouldn't we? Does not Christ rule from on high? Will not all men have to give an account for their actions before the throne of God? I think the laity suffers the most when these things happen. It has tarnished the good name of the EOTC and shroud it with scandal. But our God is a God of justice and I'm confident that justice will prevail! 2 of 3

I am a western born member of the church since around the time Paulos came into power. I was arrested for resisting to leave a church building occupied by the late Abuna Yeshaq that some of Paulos' adherents sought to seize for the synod in Addis Ababa and find it unfortunate for these things to have taken place. I realize throughout the church's history that this particular instance does not make precedence. I understand the tribal issue, but Eyesus Kristos is above tribal conflict.

i am an orthodox christian.(and no i am not tgre) i was in ethiopia in 1997 election and i was also there when police forced the tabot to get inside the bete mekdes during timket celebration. everyone in ethiopia knows about the patriarch. but i always say Amen in church when they mentioned names and pray for everyone in power. orthodox is based on Christ's love and love in general, so always say amen and pray for him and kahnat like him
