@6midlan It has a different tone. It can be close enough to a fretted bass not to notice (if the player is really damn tight - like here :P), but then the whole fretless tone (known often as mwah) can be emphasised. Since there are no absolute semitone divisions you have all the microtones in between. It makes for some really awesome sliding, and also can play some really exotic music. @6midlan Different sound, there's different feel to it, it's a different instrument overall.
