Ushahidi is a free and open source platform for crowd-sourcing crisis information that was developed to map reports of violence in Kenya after the post-election fallout at the beginning of 2008. The Ushahidi Engine allows anyone to gather distributed data via SMS, email or web and visualize it on a map or timeline.
David Kobia, Ushahidi's Director of Technology Development, briefly talks to ReliefWeb about Ushahidi's role in the humanitarian world. David's experience is varied and extensive. David has almost 10 years in the technology field. After pursuing a BS in Computer Science at the University of Alabama, he has been a professional Web developer and has worked with nearly every Web technology including VB, .NET, PHP, Perl, MySQL, JSP, Flash, XML, Javascript, CSS and HTML.
