On Monday, June 25, 2012, members of the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression went on trial before the military court. The charge brought against the individuals is "illegal possession of documents to be published."
The defendants are: Mayada Khalil, Sanaa Muhsin, Razan Ghazzawi, Yara Badr, Bassam Al-Ahmad, Ayham Azzoul, and Juan Farso, who was unable to attend due to the difficulty in traveling between the city of Amouda and Damascus.
The judge in the 4th Military Court postponed the hearing until August 6, 2012, and renewed the 2012, and demanded that Mr. Mazen Darwish be brought forward as a witness. This request was ignored by the Air Force Intelligence branch for the second time. Air Force Intelligence personnel raided the Center's headquarters in Damascus, arresting all employees and visitors present last February 16, 2012. No information is available on Mr. Darwish and four of his colleagues: blogger Hussein Gharir, who suffers from a heart condition and high blood pressure; Hani Al-Zitani; and Abdel Rahman Hamada; and Mansour Al-Omari.
We in the Local Coordination Committees in Syria express our deep concern regarding the continued disappearance of the five members of the Center and call upon international law organizations to continue their pressure to secure the immediate release of the detainees and to make public information about their circumstances
