Gary Fong demonstrates the Lightsphere Collapsible indoors compared to direct flash. Direct flash gives a two-dimensional look because the flash is on the same plane as the lens - similar to photographing an egg with the light directly in front of you - you get an egg-shaped image. Moving the light to an angle gives it 3 dimensionality, and the Lightsphere sends light to the ceiling and all around the interior, giving it a lampshade look.
